Khair for all was an affordable culturally honouring food box social enterprise piloted from November 2021-October 2023. Khair for All was created by the Multicultural Health Brokers and powerfully operated in partnership with grassroots community agencies, community members we serve and a corporate partner, Gud Box. Khair for All aimed to increase accessibility to fresh, nutritious, and culturally honouring food. Khair for All sought to bring Edmonton’s community agencies and businesses together to collectively advance food security.
The end of October, 2022 marked the end of the pilot phase of Khair for All. Despite our best efforts, including joint marketing efforts, several redesigns and strategic pivots, Khair for All was not aligned with the needs of the ethnocultural population and the communities MCHB aimed to serve, and was not able to generate the sales needed to sustain the social enterprise model. Above all, we are proud of our joint efforts with diverse community members and stakeholders and thankful for the dedication of the amazing partners we have collaborated with.
We would like to use our remaining funding, time, and capacity to capture our learnings from the pilot and generate a report. This report will capture the feedback from our partners and customers and synthesize the impacts and learnings and will be shared with partners and stakeholders. Ultimately, this report will dig into sector-wide issues around food-related social enterprises that will be crucial in preventing the same errors for future ventures by MCHB and sector partners.
We aim to have the report completed in January 2023.
With sincere gratitude in our hearts for the support, business and love from our partners, community members, Brokers, allies and many. Thank you.
